Make Sure Your Air and Duct System Is Operating Efficiently
Ducts are used to distribute conditioned air throughout a home with forced-air heating and cooling systems. A duct system is the collection of tubes that distribute this air to each of the home's rooms. It can make a big difference in both the cost and the effectiveness of heating and cooling your home. It also has an important effect on the comfort and health of your home's occupants.
About 20 percent of the air that moves through your home's duct system may be lost due to leaks, holes and poorly connected ducts. The likely result is higher utility bills and more difficulty keeping your house comfortable, no matter how the thermostat is set. The performance of your air flow system may be compromised and in need of repair or replacement if: You have high summer and winter energy bills; You have rooms that are difficult to heat and cool; Your ducts are located in an attic, crawlspace, or the garage; Or you find tangled or kinked flexible ducts in your system.
To improve the efficiency of your air system, CPS Energy is offering a rebate for:
Duct Repair or Replacement - 25 percent, up to $1,500 per system and $2,500 per customer
Duct Testing - 50 percent, up to $250 per system
Other Incentives - Rebates are available if your contractor replaces your central air conditioner with a high efficiency system (15 SEER and 12.0 EER) while testing and replacing the entire duct system. Contact your registered air flow performance contractor for details.
Air Flow Performance Rebates are available only for work completed on existing AC systems. This program is not applicable to new construction. The Air Flow Performance Certification program will include rebates for the repair and/or replacement of duct work needed to improve the overall efficiency of your heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system and for testing that shows improvement to the HVAC system. Rebates are not available for duct sealing.
To qualify for rebate:
1) Pretesting must show 25% or more leakage in the duct system.
2) Post-testing of the repairs and/or replacement must show 8% or less leakage in the duct system.
3) All testing must be performed by a CPS Energy registered contractor under the Air Flow Performance Rebate Program.
The Air Flow Performance Certification Application is not available on this Web site. Copies of the application are only available through Air Flow Performance Registered Contractors.
