Majority of Storm-Related Outages Now Restored

01/25/2012

CPS Energy crews, working through the early morning hours and the majority of the day on Wednesday, restored power to nearly all of the approximately 26,000 customers impacted by overnight storms. Less than 250 customers are without power at this time as a result of severe weather that included a confirmed tornado, high winds, heavy rain and lightning.

The weather began affecting electrical service shortly before 1 a.m.  By daybreak, the number of customers without service was down to nearly 16,000.  CPS Energy crews will continue to work throughout the evening to restore power to isolated customers. Restoration times are dependent on the individual outages, many of which have been caused by downed poles or other infrastructure damage.

Customers experiencing outages are asked to call 353-HELP (4357) if they have not yet reported the outage.

CPS Energy is the nation's largest municipally owned natural gas and electric utility, providing service to approximately 717,000 electric customers and 325,000 natural gas customers in and around the city of San Antonio. The utility ranks among the nation's lowest-cost energy providers while ranking number 1 in wind-energy capacity among municipally owned utilities.
