Sales Tax Holiday Combined With CPS Energy Rebates Equals Big Savings

05/23/2011

Shoppers who have put off buying that energy-efficient appliance or light bulb can take advantage of the State’s ENERGY STAR® sales tax holiday to save some instant and long-term green. The holiday will take place over the upcoming Memorial Day weekend and the savings can add up when residential customers also apply for CPS Energy rebates for some appliances.

Beginning Saturday, May 28, Texans can purchase ENERGY STAR® appliances and select other items with no sales tax applied to the final price. ENERGY STAR® appliances use less electricity, resulting in lower energy bills for consumers and greater energy conservation.

The sales tax holiday applies only to the following appliances and household equipment:

  • air conditioners priced under $6,000
  • refrigerators priced under $2,000
  • ceiling fans
  • clothes washers
  • dishwashers
  • dehumidifiers
  • light bulbs (incandescent and fluorescent)

CPS Energy is currently offering rebates for air conditioners and refrigerators. Customers who recycle their old refrigerator through CPS Energy can qualify for an additional $35 rebate. All rebates are applied in the form of a credit on the customer’s CPS Energy bills.
