Giving Hits $900,000 Mark for United Way

11/26/2012
Contribution from employees, union and retirees to help CAMP and other agencies

Families in need of services at Children’s Association for Maximum Potential (CAMP) and a variety of other local agencies have a greater chance of receiving help following this year’s United Way campaign at CPS Energy. Employees, IBEW Local 500, and retirees demonstrated their desire to live united and help the community they serve by giving $900,741 to United Way.

Contributions for 2012 topped last year’s giving by $20,739 even with 120 fewer employees. The campaign goal of $900,000 exceeded 2011’s final pledge of $882,871. It was met solely through employee, union and retiree contributions from one-time donations, pay deductions, special events and an annual golf tournament that birdied $39,000 for CAMP, a program that serves children and adults with disabilities and special health care needs. Employee giving alone averaged $238.

CPS Energy remains among the top 10 local companies for United Way contributions in San Antonio and Bexar County. CPS Energy was named as United Way’s large corporate volunteer of the year last June.

CPS Energy is the nation's largest municipally owned natural gas and electric utility, providing service to approximately 728,000 electric and 328,000 natural gas customers in the Greater San Antonio area.
