Attic insulation, wall insulation, weather-stripping, replacement of incandescent light bulbs, solar screens and duct seals are all weatherization measures that are designed to increase home energy efficiency and save money. With cooler weather upon us, the CPS Energy Casa Verde program is offering qualifying low-income customers free home weatherization to help keep heating costs low.
CPS Energy customers that live in Atascosa, Bexar, Bandera, Comal, Kendall, Medina and Wilson counties are eligible to apply.
To date, more than 800 homes have been weatherized in Bexar and Atascosa counties with funding from CPS Energy’s Save for Tomorrow Energy (STEP) program. The program goal is to help roughly 1,600 customers by January 31, 2013.
“With all of the work that has been done to my home, I know it will help lower my bills,” said Antonia Cisneros, a CPS Energy customer who recently had wall insulation, weather stripping, replacement of incandescent light bulbs, and solar screens installed.
Home owners and renters interested in the Casa Verde program can qualify for home weatherization improvements by meeting specific program guidelines, which include a questionnaire regarding income for all members of the household and a home evaluation. Customers interested in the program should visit the CPS Energy website or an application intake session. Applications will be accepted at the following upcoming sessions:
