Commercial Rebates - Program Overview

The CPS Energy Rebate Program for Commercial and Industrial Customers was developed to provide incentives for the new installation and retrofit of a wide range of equipment that reduces demand and saves energy in non-residential facilities. Our rebate program promotes the purchase of eligible high-efficiency equipment installed at qualifying customer facilities. Rebates offered through this program serve to reduce the incremental cost to upgrade to high-efficiency equipment over standard efficiency options for CPS Energy’s customers. The program includes equipment with easily calculated savings, provides straightforward and easy participation for customers.

The goals of the Commercial Rebate Program include:

  • Increase awareness and customer demand for high-efficiency, energy saving equipment.
  • Increase the availability and market penetration of energy efficient equipment that will result in long-term energy savings and peak reductions.

Rebate requests will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.  An inspection is required for all projects except HVAC prior to the removal of the old equipment and after the installation of the new equipment.  Inspections will not be scheduled until appropriate worksheets have been completed.  The inspection is not a guarantee that funding will be available when the project is complete.

Applicants must submit all required documents within 60 days of project completion. The program runs until January 31, 2010 or until the funds are depleted.

The Commercial Rebate Program can change without notice.  CPS Energy reserves the right to discontinue the program at any time.

Eligibility
Any CPS Energy non-residential customer is eligible to apply for a rebate under the below defined programs.

Efficiency Standards
CPS Energy has designed the Commercial Rebate Program to encourage energy efficiency improvements that go beyond the efficiency ratings of a typical retrofit, replacement, or new purchase. Measures must exceed current local, state, and federal minimum efficiency standards.    In all cases, equipment must meet local codes and permits for rebates to be granted.

For air conditioning replacements and new systems, the rebate will be based on efficiency and size in tons.  See the 2009 AC Rebate Matrix.

Measures for Rebates
The intent of the program is to reduce electric demand.  Demand savings from new equipment or retrofits will be based on manufacturer’s certified load values, deemed savings or other verifiable methods.  In most cases, on site inspections for measurement and verification are required before the project is begun and/or after completion.  For complete details requirements of each program, see individual program measures.

The following measures are included in the program.  See the detailed requirements for each measure.

  • HVAC/Air Conditioning and Heating Equipment, Package Terminal Air Conditioners and Package Terminal Heat Pumps
  • High Efficiency Lighting Equipment:  Lighting installations or retrofits
  • Premium Efficiency Motors
  • Building Envelope:  Roof Coatings & Window Coatings
  • Custom Programs: (pre-approval required)  Chillers,  Lighting Fixture Program, Other

Exclusions from the Programs
Projects that rely on changes in customer behavior or are not permanent are not eligible.  The following is a sample list of excluded items.

  • Plug loads (i.e., office equipment)
  • Self-generation or co-generation
  • Rely on changes in customer behavior and require no capital investment
  • Involve fuel-switching to electric

Pricing of Rebates
Rebates will vary depending on the type of equipment being purchased or replaced, and the demand saved.  To obtain the current rebate amounts check the CPS Energy Web site under “Commercial Rebates” or contact CPS Energy at (210) 353-2SAV.

The Commercial Rebate Program can change without notice and will be based on limited funds available.

Payments
