CPS Energy is planning to construct a new electric substation in Bexar County to replace the Kelly #3 substation. The proposed substation will connect to the existing high-voltage transmission lines via new transmission lines between 35th Street and the substation. The existing transmission lines south of Thompson Pl. will be removed along with the Kelly #3 substation. The project will also include related distribution lines to connect customers to the new substation.
CPS Energy is proposing to build the substation on an undeveloped site located on Port San Antonio property between Growdon Rd. and West Thompson Pl. The substation will cover an area of approximately five acres. Construction is scheduled to begin May 2012, with estimated completion date of June 2013.
Why is this project needed?
The existing CPS Energy electric system in southwest San Antonio must be expanded to serve customers’ needs for reliable electric power. The demand for electricity is increasing in the Port San Antonio area, and we have an opportunity to improve the reliability of electric service to our customers.
How might this project affect you?
The substation site and potential transmission easement to the station are located on Port San Antonio Property. However, residents may be exposed to construction traffic and activity typical to substation construction.
The website will include regular updates on the project as steps are completed. Also, you may call or write to:
