1. What is the Dresden – LA Heights Transmission Project?
CPS Energy is planning to rebuild an existing power line along Brad Avenue, Viendo and Buckeye between our Dresden and LA Heights Substations. The power line route will be about 4 miles long, starting at the intersection of Buckeye and Edgebrook north of I-10 and ending at the existing LA-Heights Substation at the intersection of West Avenue and Hildebrand. The route of the line is illustrated by a dotted line on the adjacent map.
The project will involve a complete rebuild of the line including foundations, the line structures (poles) and electrical conductor (wire). This will improve the quality and safety of an aging transmission line and help ensure electrical reliability between the Dresden and LA Heights Substations. There will be a change in the type of structures. The existing lattice (webbed) structures will be replaced with solid poles of a similar footprint size.
The new line is needed by June 2011 to maintain electrical reliability. The existing CPS Energy electric system must be upgraded to serve customers’ needs for reliable electric power. In addition, the demand for electricity is increasing rapidly and the project will include the installation of a new larger wire which will allow CPS Energy the ability to provide more power to the area.
As with most projects, construction activities will impact residents in different ways. Construction activities will be focused around the new and old pole locations and therefore property owners will be contacted individually by CPS Energy team members to discuss project impacts.
Activities that may be typical to the entire construction route will be the presence of construction equipment and materials as well as temporary partial road closures while construction is in progress.
