CPS Energy is planning to rebuild an existing power line to improve the quality and safety of an aging transmission line and help ensure electrical reliability between the Dresden and L.A. Heights Substations.
The power line route will be about four miles long, starting at the intersection of Buckeye and Edgebrook north of I-10 and ending at the existing L.A. Heights Substation at the intersection of West Avenue and Hildebrand. The project will involve a complete rebuild of the line including foundations, the line structures (poles) and electrical conductor (wire).
The new line is needed by June 2011 to maintain electrical reliability. The existing electric system must be upgraded to serve our customers’ needs for reliable electric power. In addition, the demand for electricity is increasing rapidly and the project will include the installation of a new, larger wire which will allow CPS Energy the ability to provide more power to the area.
