Hot Wells Substation Project

CPS Energy is proposing a new Hot Wells Substation at the intersection of Avondale Ave. and Hillje St., just west of I-37. Under this proposal, the substation will increase the capacity of the electric system to support the growing power consumption in the area, and the substation will improve the reliability of electric service to homes and businesses.

In order to minimize the construction of transmission facilities, the substation will be located next to the existing CPS Energy transmission line that runs north-south along I-37.  Also, to minimize the construction of distribution lines, the substation will be located near existing connection points to the local power system.

Please see the attached graphics for an example of a substation, an example of a distribution line, an example of a transmission line, and a map of the proposed site.

The project is in the planning phase, and we expect construction from May 2011 to June 2012. Construction activities will occur on and around the new substation site. These activities will include clearing and leveling the site, installing foundations, erecting poles and structures, and installing power lines and related equipment.

CPS Energy is planning to host a public information meeting where we will present our proposal for the project and receive comments from residents within the neighborhood. We are coordinating with community groups to schedule a time and location that is convenient to our customers.  We will post a meeting notice on this site as soon as possible.

This website will include regular updates on the project as steps are completed. In addition, you may call or write to:
