CPS Energy is building the new Palo Alto substation to be located near Palo Alto College off of Loop 410. This substation is needed to step-down (reduce) from transmission voltage to distribution voltage levels for distribution to customers in the area. The substation design will include three power transformers and related equipment and will be fed from the existing Chavaneaux Road to Pearsall Road Transmission Line.
The project is currently in the design phase with construction beginning in July 2013 with an expected completion date of July 2014. The Palo Alto substation will provide better service reliability and serve additional load growth in the Palo Alto area.
As with most projects, construction activities may impact residents and motorist in different ways. Construction activities will be focused around the new substation site. Activities that may be typical to the construction project will be the presence of construction equipment and materials as well as possible increased construction traffic in and around the area while construction is in progress.
