REAP, Inc. -- Helping Local Families Keep Their Lights On
|
In these challenging economic times, many citizens in our community need assistance, especially when it comes to keeping their homes warm and their lights on. You can help by adding a few pennies to your next bill to help provide power to neighbors in need.
For the past seven years, CPS Energy, the City of San Antonio and Bexar County have worked together in support of the Residential Energy Assistance Partnership to help those in financial distress pay their utility bills. The partnership, also known as REAP Inc., underwrites all administrative costs, ensuring that every dollar donated goes directly to those in need.
In 2002, REAP Inc. was founded to help low-income individuals and families in San Antonio and Bexar County pay their gas and electric bills. CPS Energy has committed $1 million each year for the past seven years to support REAP Inc., and in 2008, the City allocated $1.4 million to try and keep up with the ever-increasing need for utility assistance in our community. Still, the rising cost of commodities and the current national economic crisis have left families in financial distress, many for the first time. In addition to financial assistance, REAP Inc. provides each recipient with education and information on energy efficiency, home weatherization ideas and bill-payment programs.

Pennies for Power – Share Your Spare Change

We invite you to join with REAP Inc. to help our community take care of our own and literally “keep the lights on” for our most-fragile population – the underprivileged, the elderly, the medically dependent and low-income families with young children.
We hope you will consider a donation to REAP Inc. the next time you pay your CPS Energy bill. You can add a few dollars to your bill payment and indicate that amount on your bill stub, whether you pay by paper or electronically. Or, if you can spare some change, round up your bill a few pennies to the next nearest dollar. It’s a small gesture but it can make a big difference.
