So the idea of a free Peak Saver programmable thermostat sounds interesting but you still have questions? Try one of our frequently asked questions below and see if that helps. Or just call us toll-free at 1-866-222-7645 and we'll be glad to answer your question and start you on the road to saving with a Peak Saver thermostat.
The ENERGY STAR® rated Honeywell thermostat being installed in your home is capable of receiving radio signals. On the hottest summer days when CPS ENERGY needs to reduce demand, a signal is sent to the thermostat to begin turning your air conditioner’s compressor on and off. We call this a “cycling event.” The compressor will typically cycle off for approximately 10 minutes every half-hour. This cycle repeats continuously for up to four hours. Cycling events typically occur on weekdays, May through September, excluding holidays and weekends. However, system emergencies can happen at any time causing an event. During a cycling event, your thermostat will show “Save” on the display. In addition, your heating/cooling system fan will continue to circulate air throughout your home during the cycling event. You may opt-out of 3 events per year by calling 1-866-222-7645.
When summer temperatures soar, air conditioning use increases and places a high demand on CPS Energy’s electric supply system. By helping customers reduce electricity use on hot summer days, CPS ENERGY is able to postpone the use of costly “peaking generators,” keeping electricity affordable and helping protect the environment through reduced energy usage.
Your home may get slightly warmer, but most people won’t notice when a cycling event occurs. When CPS ENERGY cycles your air conditioner’s compressor, the indoor system fan will remain on to provide air circulation. In some circumstances, the indoor temperature could rise during cycling. The degree to which you will notice such a temperature increase depends on many factors, including how well your home is insulated and the efficiency of your air conditioner. Residents who have health concerns or those that may be affected by warmer temperatures should not participate in the program.
CPS ENERGY typically cycles your air conditioner on the hottest summer days each year. You always have complete control over how the thermostat is programmed. You can program your thermostat using the thermostat’s keypad, or even better, you can adjust your thermostat from anywhere via the Internet by logging into your account at: https://wisewatts.com/cps_login.jsp
The Peak Saver thermostat is programmable and more accurate than conventional thermostats. While a conventional thermostat may allow the temperature of your home to vary within three degrees of the set point, a digital programmable thermostat will generally keep your home’s temperature within a degree of the set point. Your Peak Saver thermostat can be programmed to raise and lower the temperature when you’re away or sleeping, which results in reduced energy consumption. By programming the thermostat to your schedule, you can save up to 10% or more on cooling and heating costs.
CPS ENERGY maintains a Peak Saver hotline, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for any customer service, programming, or repair issue. In addition, service technicians are on-call after hours and on weekends. Simply call toll-free, 1-866-222-7645.
This program is voluntary, but we do encourage customers to stay enrolled for a minimum of three years, after which the Peak Saver thermostat becomes your personal property. However, should you decide to drop out before the three-year period is over, just call toll-free, 1-866-222-7645 and we will remove the Peak Saver thermostat and replace it with your original thermostat.
