Solar Rebate Program Extended to 500 Watt Systems

solar array

CPS Energy has determined that the solar photovoltaic (PV) market is expanding to include systems producing less than 1 Kilowatt (KW) in alternating current (AC) output.  In the spirit of continuing to encourage the use of solar power in the CPS Energy service territory, the current solar rebate program will be extended to systems with an expected electric power output of 500 watts (AC).  This parameter equates to solar PV systems that have name plate wattage capacities of approximately 650 watts and up.  These systems must be interconnected to the electric panel for the facility. This program extension is not applicable for individual, stand-alone appliances or equipment that is totally or partially powered by solar PV technology.

See our Solar Photovoltaic Rebate page for a rebate application, guidelines and qualified contractors

The current provisions of the CPS Energy solar rebate program are applicable to these systems with the exception of PV array metering requirements.  Since the actual AC electricity output of these systems is relatively small, CPS Energy will not separately meter the output of these PV arrays.  Net consumption billing meters are employed to provide customers with the benefit of the solar power output, albeit a relatively low percentage of most customers total electric power use.

Solar photovoltaic arrays with power output less than 500 watts (AC) are not eligible for the CPS Energy solar rebate program due to the low electric power production of such systems.  CPS Energy does not receive a significant amount of power reduction used from our grid to warrant the rebate expenditure and administrative costs required to effectively administer the program at this level.  All CPS Energy customers ultimately pay for the rebate and associated cost expenditures that the company makes for energy saving/reduction technologies that are installed by our patrons.  CPS Energy takes the responsibility of energy efficiency fund stewardship seriously and, therefore, cannot provide rebates that do not provide appropriate benefit for the company and ultimately the customers of CPS Energy.
