Recycle and Replace Your Refrigerator. Get a Cool Rebate!

Is a Spare Refrigerator Running Up Your Bill?
Recycle refrigerator

Do you have more than one refrigerator? You may think you're putting your old fridge to good use in a garage or storeroom. However, it’s likely that old unit may be running up your electric bill.

Old refrigerators and freezers use four times the energy newer models do (See ENERGY STAR'S Refrigerator Retirement Savings Calculator). Not only is that vintage model not energy efficient, extreme temperatures common in South Texas cause refrigerators and freezers to work harder and use more energy when they're relocated to a garage. In short, that "free" or spare refrigerator can cost you a lot of spare change.

Parting ways with old appliances just got a whole lot easier. CPS Energy is offering $35 to recycle old refrigerators or freezers when you decide to pull the plug on the old energy guzzler. Even better, if you replace the old unit with a new ENERGY STAR® model, we’ll give you another $65. That’s a hundred bucks for getting rid of that old fridge and replacing it with a shiny, new energy-saving model!

OPTION 1 - Turn in and Recycle Your Old Unit to Receive a $35 Rebate

  • Enjoy the savings – up to $100 in annual electrical costs by getting rid of the old refrigerator.
  • We’ll pick up, haul away and recycle the old model for free -- no heavy lifting required.  Call ARCA* at 866-472-9376 or schedule a pickup online at www.ARCAIncUtility.com. Be prepared to present your CPS Energy account number when scheduling a collection.
  • Please remember the unit must be cleaned out and in working order at the time of the pickup.
  • Pickups may take two or more weeks, so store your old refrigerator in a convenient area for pickup.
  • When your collection has been processed, we’ll credit $35 to your CPS Energy account.
  • No application is required to be sent to us.  ARCA will forward your information to us for your rebate credit.
  • The refrigerator or freezer must be picked up by ARCA or a participating retailer.

OPTION 2 - Purchase a New Energy Star® Model Refrigerator or Freezer and Recycle the Old Unit to Receive a $100 Rebate Credit

  • After purchasing a new Energy Star® model refrigerator and having your old refrigerator recycled you will receive an additional $65 credit plus a $35 credit for the recycled unit, for a total of a $100 credit. No credits will be given for purchasing an Energy Star® refrigerator and freezer only. You must recycle the old unit.
  • Call ARCA* at 866-472-9376 to obtain the current list of participating retailers or to schedule a pickup.
  • If your appliance store is currently not participating, leave your old unit in your home when they deliver your new refrigerator or freezer.  We’ll pick up the old unit, haul it away, recycle the old model and credit your account for $100. You only need to call our contractor ARCA Inc. and make an appointment with them to come and pick up the old unit.
  • Call ARCA* at 866-472-9376 or schedule a pickup online at www.ARCAIncUtility.com. Be prepared to present your CPS Energy account number when scheduling a collection. You'll receive a Proof of Recycling Certificate at the time of collection.
