Why Can't I Adjust My Peak Saver Thermostat?

Critical Period Cycling Temporarily Disables Your Thermostat

When CPS Energy initiates a cycling event for a “critical peak period,” your Peak Saver thermostat will display the word SAVINGS. During one of these 10-minute cycling periods, you will be unable to change the setting or the temperature on your thermostat.  Instead, your Peak Saver will stay in “fan” mode -- the fan is blowing air but the air is not cold.

When the 10 minutes have elapsed, your thermostat automatically calculates and initiates a brief time delay before the cooling mode resumes.  When the word SAVINGS no longer appears on the display, the air conditioner is back to its normal operation.

More Peak Saver Troubleshooting Tips

Your Peak Saver thermostat’s display will not come on…

There is no power applied to the thermostat. Check your fuse or circuit breaker.

Temperature display will not go lower than 45 degrees Fahrenheit or higher than 88 degrees Fahrenheit during programming.

You have reached the temperature setting limit...

The setting range is 45 degrees Fahrenheit to 88 degrees Fahrenheit.

Temperature change occurs incorrectly...

Check the program times for the period in question. Make sure that AM and PM indications and the current day and time are correct.  Reprogram if necessary.  Remember that it takes time for the system to recover.

Cooling mode will not come on...

Check that the system control on the thermostat is set to COOL.

Check the system fuse or circuit breaker and replace or reset, if necessary.

Check the display.  If SAVING is displayed, the system is in the cycling mode and the thermostat is being controlled.  Cooling mode cannot come on until the cycling ends.
The thermostat has a built-in time delay on cooling.  To prevent equipment damage, allow 5 to 10 minutes after changing the setting before the air conditioner starts.

If the temperature setting on your Peak Saver is lower than the current temperature, and the display shows COOL, set the system control to the OFF setting for 10 minutes.  After 10 minutes, return the system control to the COOL setting.  If the air conditioner comes on, the compressor may have reached its high-limit temperature protection and shut down.  If the air conditioner does not come on after 10 minutes and the display shows COOL, call 1-866-222-7645 for assistance.
