Electricity -- High on Fuels, Low on Bills

plug

Electricity is created in a variety of ways. Rather than relying on just one fuel source to provide power to Greater San Antonio, CPS Energy uses low-sulfur coal, natural gas, nuclear power and renewable energy to generate electricity. Thanks to this diverse blend of fuels, electricity is available at a relatively low cost to our customers. In fact, our customers pay energy bills among the lowest in the country when compared to the largest U.S. cities.

The collective use and continued investment in multiple fuel sources for electrical generation makes CPS Energy less susceptible to global market changes and continues to make our community attractive to new residents and businesses.  However, like water, electricity can't be treated as an infinite resource. New customers request service from CPS Energy every day. We are currently building a new coal plant and are considering the expansion of our investment in nuclear energy in order to meet our current demand and prepare for the community's future growth. As part of our Strategic Energy Plan, CPS Energy remains committed to cost-competitive electricity, to the environment, to energy efficiency and conservation, and to continuing the development of renewable energy sources.
