Solar power is one of the most well-known forms of clean energy. CPS Energy continues to study the benefits of sun power as a valuable generation option for our customers.
Already, CPS Energy has 128 MW of solar power in commercial operation, with an agreement in place for the development of more than 300 MW more of solar power. Our solar endeavors include:
- The 14-MW Blue Wing Solar photovoltaic installation in southeast San Antonio began generation in 2011.
- 30.4 MW of solar power are provided through three SunEdison facilities -- two Centennial Solar Farms in southeast San Antonio generating 19.8 MW, and a 10.6 MW solar facility in Somerset, Texas. All of the farms were fully operational in the summer of 2012.
- CPS Energy and OCI Solar Power have an agreement for the construction of a 400-MW solar project made up of multiple solar farms. The project will be the largest in the nation among municipal utilities, and will catapult Texas into the top five U.S. solar producing states. Alamo 1, on San Antonio's southside, is generating 40.7 MW of power. Alamo 2 is generating 4 MW of clean energy in northeast San Antonio. Alamo 4, in Brackettville, Texas, produces 39 MW. Alamo 3 is in development near IH-10 East and 1604. Future phases will bring additional sun power to CPS Energy customers.
