Coliseum to Kirby Transmission Line

We are planning to rebuild an existing double circuit 138 kV transmission line between the Coliseum and Kirby Substations. The transmission line route will be approximately five miles long and begins at the existing Coliseum Substation near the AT&T Center and proceeds northeast along the Union Pacific rail road, crosses IH 35 north of BAMC and ends at the Kirby Substation. The project will involve a complete rebuild of the transmission line including foundations, transmission structures (poles) and electrical wires. We plan to replace the transmission line along the existing route. There will be a change in the type of structures, the existing lattice (webbed) structures will be replaced with steel poles.

The existing electric system must be maintained to serve customers' needs for reliable electric power.  This project will improve the quality and safety of an aging transmission line and ensure electric reliability between the Coliseum, Ft. Sam, Holbrook and Kirby Substations.

The project is scheduled for completion in June 2017.
