Before You Purchase a New Appliance, Study This Label
While the Energy Guide label may vary with different appliances, most will include the following details:
1. Lists key features of the product which are similar to products compared in the cost range below.
2. Lists the maker, model and size of the product.
3. Estimated annual operating cost for the appliance based on a national average cost for energy. This is a key feature of an Energy Guide label for determining real, long-term costs of the product.
4. The range of annual operating costs of similar models, and how this model compares to those products.
5. The estimated amount of electricity (in kilowatt hours) this model uses in one year. Depending on your local utility rates, this will help determine the annual operating cost associated with the appliance.
6. The ENERGY STAR logo shows this appliance exceeds federal energy efficiency standards (uses less energy than standard models).
