Overview
Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems convert sunlight into electricity. They have many cost benefits and are becoming more affordable every day! However, they require a large investment and are NOT free, so let's make sure they're the right option for you!
Things to consider before purchasing
We want to help you make an informed decision about whether solar is right for you.
- Ensure your home is as energy efficient as possible. This will maximize the benefits of your solar system.
- The roof should be 10 years old or newer and face in a southwest, south, or southeast direction.
- Get at least three quotes from registered contractors.
- Find out if you are eligible for federal tax credits.
Need help making a decision?
The Bring Solar Home program provides free technical assistance on going solar and is provided by Build San Antonio Green.
Did you know?
- You have the right to cancel your purchase contract within 72 hours.
- You have to add the system to your homeowner's insurance for the full replacement cost.
- The average cost of solar in CPS Energy territory in 2023 was $3.80/per watt.
- Savings for an average 6kW system is about $90 per month.
Are there incentives for installing solar?
CPS Energy does not currently offer rebates for residential solar installations; however, you could potentially be eligible for a federal tax incentive. We recommend visiting the Residential Clean Energy Credit for more information and connecting with a tax professional before making your purchase.
