Background
CPS Energy, by way of its electric and natural gas service contract with the General Service Administration (GSA) in Washington D.C., is a federal contractor. Consequently, we are required to report our contracting activity with large, small, minority, service-disabled, veteran, historically underutilized, HUBZone, and woman-owned businesses.
Please help us in having the most updated information on your company by accessing the Supplier Classification Report to determine whether the classification for your company is current in CPS Energy’s Supplier Database. Search for your company’s name and review your expiration date.
A Business Questionnaire will need to be completed and returned to us as soon as possible if the following applies:
- Classification is expired.
- Classification is to expire within 60 days.
- Space for the “Expiration Date” is blank.
- Company not listed.
Companies with expertise not included in the Supplier Classification Report are still be able to register and respond to solicitations. If your company is interested in becoming a registered supplier for CPS Energy, please log on through our Supplier Registration Portal. Registered suppliers receive notices of all bid opportunities for the Supplier Classifications selected.

Investing in our Community- FY2027 Q1 Recap
At the end of FY27 Q1, CPS Energy has been steadfast in implementing aggressive procurement targets across the enterprise, ensuring the delivery of contracting opportunities to local, small businesses within our community. After completing the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2027, CPS Energy invested over $433 million dollars via contracted goods and services with more than $251 million (76%) of that spend paid to vendors located here in the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area. In this same timeframe, CPS Energy has spent more than $123 million dollars with small business, representing over 40% of our total competitive procurement spend.
To further its mission of ensuring access to contract opportunities, CPS Energy has implemented a comprehensive strategy to promote and encourage participation in our procurement process among local and small vendors. Over the last four years, we have increased our participation in various outreach events by more than 196%! Our Supply Chain team has either hosted or attended over 270 separate events this past fiscal year, with 100 events already attended in FY27 Q1 as we continue to seek out and engage our local and small suppliers to encourage their participation in CPS Energy’s procurement process. We continue to leverage strategic partnerships such as those with the Small Business Development Center, the Center for Government Contracting and our various resource partners and trade groups to speak directly to small business owners concerning supplier registration and procurement needs.
Progressing into midyear FY27, CPS Energy remains committed to working with elected leaders across all levels of government to best advocate for our local and small supplier in an evolving procurement landscape. Further, CPS Energy continues to collaborate with our peer agencies thru the SupplySA Initiative, as we work to better understand the availability of local, small suppliers in our service area as well as implement best practices to better their access to competitive opportunities. For example, we continue to identify contracts that may have scopes that allows for either debundling or multiple awardees. At the time of this update, CPS Energy has 248 active contract opportunities valued at over $3.3 billion dollars that have been debundled, resulting in work awarded to 507 unique suppliers! CPS Energy’s Supply Chain team remains committed to engaging our local, and small vendors through targeted outreach, to ensure contract opportunities are made available to all seeking to do business with our organization and contribute to the success of our community
