We receive renewable energy from, surprisingly, two local landfills in the form of methane gas.

The Covel Gardens landfill (9.6 MW) and the Nelson Gardens Landfill (4.2 MW, a closed landfill) provide nearly 14 MW of renewable power, derived from decomposing waste that produces various gases, including methane.

The gases are cleaned, compressed, and converted into fuel, which powers generators to produce electricity. That electricity is then fed into CPS Energy’s distribution system and eventually reaches customers.
