Electric Vehicle - Charging Solutions

Electric vehicles (EV) are convenient because you can charge at home and when you are out and about. It takes about 20 seconds to perform your part of charging – 10 seconds to plug in, and 10 seconds to unplug your EV. In between, you are free to do something else, like sleep, shop, or work.
Charging at Home
The majority of EV drivers charge at home about 80% of the time. Charging your EV at home means you can leave with a “full tank” every morning.
Different levels of charging are achieved with different equipment and result in different charging speeds. If you'd like to learn about EV charging, read this informative charging guide from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). When setting up charging at your home, contact a licensed electrician to verify that your breaker is sufficient and to install the charging equipment you choose to use at home.
When you charge is important too. EVs are important to reduce carbon emissions from transportation but EV charging changes how and when energy is consumed. Our community’s demand for energy is at its highest and usually peaks between the hours of 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekdays. So, it’s better to charge your EV during off-peak times when the energy demand is lower, especially as the number of people driving and charging EVs increases.
CPS Energy is helping EV owners develop good charging habits by introducing FlexEVSM Off-Peak Rewards program to provide EV owners financial incentives for charging when the energy demand is lower, outside of peak demand hours.
FlexEV Off-Peak Rewards
Sign up for FlexEV Off-Peak Rewards and earn one time $50 credit on your utility bill for agreeing to charge during off-peak hours. Plus, if you limit your charging to no more than twice monthly during peak hours, you’ll earn a $10 credit for the month. Peak hours for the program are Monday-Friday between 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

Charging Around Town
Many EV drivers embrace the ABC – ALWAYS BE CHARGING approach and plug in whenever a charger is available. Topping off your battery reduces the chance of range anxiety and the fear of running out of battery charge before you reach your destination.
