Community Input Committee (CIC) Application

 
 

Background:

The CPS Energy Community Input Committee (CIC) formerly the Citizens Advisory Committee, was created by the CPS Energy Board of Trustees by resolution dated May 26, 1998. The CIC is a volunteer group, created through the action of CPS Energy’s Board of Trustees. Committee members do not receive compensation for their participation.

The CIC will provide feedback to the Board of Trustees and CPS Energy management on key initiatives, as requested by the Board. The CIC will have three subcommittees: Power & Technology; Rates, Finance & Business; and Customer Relations & Communications. Every member will serve on one subcommittee.

Community Input Committee Application:

CPS Energy is seeking four (4) community members who live inside the utility’s service territory. The CPS Energy Board of Trustees will select one candidate from their respective quadrant.  To find the Board quadrant where you reside, visit this webpage: https://www.cpsenergy.com/boardquadrant

CPS Energy is also seeking one (1) at-large member who resides inside the utility’s service territory, but outside the San Antonio city limits. Qualifying applicants for this seat must reside in one of the 31 suburban cities or in the unincorporated area of Bexar County. The current CIC will select the at-large candidate, following past protocol.

Residential addresses will be used to sort applications by utility service territory quadrants. Those who qualify for the at-large position will be reviewed separately by the CIC.  

Applications to become a member of the CIC will open for three weeks beginning on Monday, April 29, 2024, and close at the end of business on Friday, May 17, 2024.

Mission:

The mission of the CIC is to assemble diverse perspectives that represent our community to evaluate and advise CPS Energy in its mission to serve our community through reliable, competitively priced, and sustainable energy services in an equitable manner by serving as liaisons with the community and communicating bi-directional input on business activities.

Membership:

The 19 members of the CIC are appointed to ensure that the committee is representative of a cross-section of individuals with diverse backgrounds and interests in the CPS Energy service area.

  • 10 members are recommended by their respective San Antonio City Council Members and reside within the boundaries of their corresponding City Council districts. 
  • 5 at-large members are CPS Energy customers living in the CPS Energy service area and are selected by the CIC. (at least 2 reside inside the utility’s service territory but outside the City of San Antonio city limits).
  • 4 members are customers residing in each of the four geographical quadrants and are selected by the CPS Energy Board of Trustees.

The CPS Energy Board of Trustees approves all appointments to the CIC.

Terms:

Appointment terms do not exceed two years from the date of the appointment. A member cannot serve more than three complete consecutive terms on the CIC, for a maximum of six total years. 

Application Information:

  • The CIC will be asked to provide thoughtful input on important issues, primarily through the work of subcommittees that have been established by the Board.
  • Applicants must be a United States Citizen and reside in our service territory.
  • CPS Energy Board of Trustees will choose a member from their respective Board quadrant (quadrants 1-4); the CIC will choose the at-large member.
  • Applications will open on Monday, April 29, 2024, and will close at the end of business on Friday, May 17, 2024. 
  • The slate of new candidates will be brought forward for the Board’s consideration and approval, tentatively scheduled for the June board meeting.
