Road Closures and Infrastructure Projects

Upcoming Road Closures

To maintain the overall health of our infrastructure and utility system, we have to occasionally close roads to perform upgrades, maintenance and replacements.   The road closures below are scheduled but on occasion, we are forced to close roads to make unscheduled repairs to our equipment.

The below schedule and timeline are subject to change.  Thank you for your patience as we work to provide you with safe and reliable electric and gas service.

NEW LAW:  CPS Energy reminds you as of September 2019, the Move Over Slow Down law now includes the requirement to move over or slow down for utility vehicles with flashing lights.  Help keep our crews safe.

CPS Energy Reliability Projects:

  • CPS Energy will begin construction on a new natural gas main being installed under Loop 1604 near IH-10 on the northwest side of San Antonio. Construction will require closure of the right lane along the IH-10 westbound frontage road to the eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road starting Tuesday, January 11, 2022.  READ MORE
  • CPS Energy is partnering with the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDoT) on an improvement project that will eventually elevate lanes and bridges along the IH-35 corridor. CPS Energy will start a transmission construction project which will require all northbound and southbound lanes on IH-35 to be closed intermittently for transmission construction between O’Connor and N. Weidner starting Sunday, May 1, 2022. READ MORE

Due to Weather - Work on Sunday, May 22, 2022 Has Been Canceled:

  • Scope of work: CPS Energy crews will be working on both sides of the highway and access/frontage roads, (2) rolling stops on Loop 1604 will be conducted to remove old conductors safely, and (2) rolling stops on Loop 1604 will be undertaken to install new conductors safely.

Service Reliability Conversion Projects

We are undertaking projects to convert our existing overhead electric lines to underground lines for improved electric service reliability. We are undertaking these projects because underground electric lines are generally less susceptible than overhead lines to damage and/or service interruptions due to storms, vehicles, trees, and animals. These enhancements to our infrastructure are meant to significantly improve the electric service we provide in neighborhoods throughout our service area. Find project-specific information here.

Planned Outages

Our community continues to grow. As it does, we're enhancing and adding new infrastructure as well as updating and improving current infrastructures. This helps ensure safe, reliable gas and electric service for existing and future customers.

During infrastructure projects, you may experience temporary power outages that are necessary for our field crews to perform their work safely. We will notify you by phone at least one to two business days before any planned outage to inform you of the outage start time and approximate duration. To help us, contact you promptly, please take a moment to confirm or update your contact information in Manage My Account.
